The word
that is use to name people, places, animals, non-living things and emotions are
considered to be nouns.
Noun can
be broadly classified into five categories:
Common Noun: A common noun is a noun which is shared by everyone.
In the
above sentence “Romulus” is proper noun and the word “king” is common noun.
*Adolf
Hitler was a dictator.
*The TAJ
MAHAL Is in India.
*Salt
is salty.
*The sun
shines brightly.
Proper
Noun: It is the name of some particular person or place.
Note:
Proper noun will always written in capital letters at the beginning of the
sentence.
*“Michael
is a proper noun”
*“Boy is
a common noun”
*“Amsterdam
is a proper noun”
*“Town
is a common noun”
Abstract
noun: These are that sort of noun which determines the quality, action or state
of being in any sentence. You cannot see, smell, taste and touch it.
Let me
give you an example which will help you in understanding the abstract noun
properly.
*Qualities:
Generous, boldness, polite, kindness, humanity, brightness.
*Action:
Laughter, judgment, movement
*State:
sickness, brotherhood, youth, poverty, employment.
Concrete
Noun: It is anything that can be perceived by your senses. You can hear it, see
it, smell it, taste it and touch it.
For
example:
Book,
Bread, Butter, ice-cream, Bottle
Collective
noun: It is the name given to the collection of persons or things taken
together and spoken of as whole.
Let me
give you a brief example in order to understand it appropriately.
Fleet,
army, crowd.
